I find it challenging to decipher the rationale behind John Dramani Mahama's promise to institute a pension scheme for Okada riders across the country.
It is evident that the proposal lacks thorough consideration and appears to have been driven solely by a quest for political advantage. I am reliably informed that, John Mahama and the NDC have conducted a survey to determine the total number of people involved in the Okada business, and they are willing to make misleading promises to secure votes, hence their hastily formulated policy of implementing a pension scheme for this group.
Many Ghanaians, myself included, are questioning the problem that the proposed pension scheme aims to address.
Again, people are asking, how many of the young individuals engaged in the Okada business aspire to retire as riders and benefit from a pension plan? Frankly speaking , John Mahama's pension promise is disrespectful to the youths who are imperiling their lives in the Okada trade as a temporary means to address their financial circumstances.
One would expect that a leader genuinely concerned about the young individuals involved in the Okada business would propose transformative alternatives rather than making commitments that could be perceived as endorsing a life threatening and precarious profession like that of the Okada operation.
In my view, any leader who truly has the welfare of the burgeoning youth in the Okada operations at heart should, at the very least, offer them insurance coverage to mitigate the risks associated with their operations.
Without reservation, I can assert that John Mahama lacks substantial solutions to the nation's challenges. After eight years in opposition, he remains unchanged, seemingly disconnected from the country's pressing issues and cannot be trusted to provide effective solution s in that regard.
Thank you.
