On Thursday, August 15, 2024, we had the Regional launch of Construction Equipment for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) at Myohaung Barracks, Apremdo.
The Western Region has a total of 148 road improvement equipment allocated, plus 28 concrete mixers. I submitted that DRIP is to resource MMDAs across the country to provide road improvement services.
The initiative is expected to create 5000 direct jobs, stimulate local economic development, reduce post-harvest losses since farmers will have improved roads to transport their farm produce to market centers and improve general service delivery across the country.
Under the initiative, 30 participants (operators and drivers) from each MMDA will receive training on the use of the machines. In all, 420 operators and drivers will be trained for the Western Region. I stated that DRIP is to create a connected and thriving Ghana, where every district, no matter how remote, feels the impact of progress. I noted that DRIP is the biggest investment ever made in the Local Government Sector, providing nearly 1500 equipment to MMDAs across the country.
Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah (MP), Western Regional Minister.
