The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been urged to re-ignite the passions and enthusiasm that brought it to power as it marks its 32nd anniversary and gears up for a crucial election year.
In a statement released to commemorate the party's anniversary on Sunday, July 28, former Energy Minister and NPP stalwart Boakye Agyarko said the party needs to "arouse its flagging spirit and ready itself for battle" ahead of 2024.
"While we celebrate our achievements, we must also examine the difficulties and dangers before us," said Mr. Agyarko.
“32 years of struggle has brought us to an unprecedented political crossroads and we can hear the sputtering of the NPP engine. It is calling for our attention,” the former Minister added.
Mr. Agyarko observed that parties can become "deflected into all sort of side issues" if they fail to periodically re-examine their core objectives.
With elections looming, he said "the urgency of now" demands the NPP rekindles the fire in its belly.
“To the leadership under whose watch the party is balanced on a knife-edge,” Mr. Agyarko quoted W.B Yeats: "We being poor, have only our dreams; we have spread our dreams under your feet; tread softly because you tread on our dreams."
