For the purpose of this article, I aim to elucidate the concept of a Scam Policy as follows: Any fraudulent scheme or ploy employed to obtain something (such as votes) from an individual. From the aforementioned discourse, I confidently assert without any ambiguity that the 24-hour economy initiative put forth by the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, is a perilous hoax that should be repudiated by astute voters ahead of the December elections. John Mahama's proposal for a 24-hour economy is merely a deceitful catchphrase intended solely for electoral gain, lacking substantive content, which is evident in the struggle to provide a coherent elucidation of the concept.
The progenitor himself, who also happens to be the flagbearer, appears to lack a comprehensive understanding of the policy. He articulated that, within the framework of the 24-hour economy, his administration would provide young individuals with small-scale poultry farms, including chicks for egg production, with the intention for them to sell the eggs and subsequently the hens. This proposal stands in stark contrast to his opponent's plan to train one million youths in Robotics and Coding, exposing the superficiality of his so-called 24-hour economy agenda.
Presently, elucidating the intricacies of the 24-hour economy policy has evolved into a formidable challenge for the National Democratic Congress subsequent to its unveiling by the flagbearer. Efforts to expound upon the policy have resulted in perplexity and exasperation among both party members and the general populace, with a plethora of baffling and irksome explanations being proffered across various public platforms by party officials, including the flagbearer himself. The more discerning individuals within the party have resorted to personal attacks when pressed for clarification. Among the absurdities that have emerged thus far is the explanation provided by Dr. William Owusu, a Regional Communication member, regarding John Mahama's proposed 24-hour economy.
Dr. Owusu elucidated that, under this initiative, the government will prioritize the breeding of Tigers and Lions for export to generate employment opportunities for the burgeoning youth population. He further expounded that young individuals will be employed as Agricultural Extension Officers to manage the task of feeding the Lions and Tigers using Aircraft on a rotational basis. Additionally, any young person interested in venturing into the breeding of Lions and Tigers for export will receive incentives such as tax exemptions, security, and complimentary electricity. The fact that a knowledgeable individual such as Dr. Owusu struggled to articulate the intricacies of the 24-hour economy policy suggests to Ghanaians that the policy is not only a sham but also maliciously devised. In essence, the policy remains nothing more than a mere political catchphrase. In addition to the explanation regarding the export of Lions and Tigers, some of their spokespeople have clarified that, within the framework of the 24-hour economy, individuals will have the opportunity to buy and sell Grasscutters and waakye during nighttime.
Their chairman, Asiedu Nketiah, has also elucidated that the 24-hour economy under John Mahama's leadership will offer security to farmers working in their fields during the night, as well as provide them with affordable electricity and water. Moreover, Christiana Awuni, the NDC's Coordinator overseeing the Creative Arts industry, has outlined that in the context of the 24-hour economy envisioned by John Mahama, Market women who operate in the morning will be mandated to close their stalls by noon, regardless of their sales, to allow other individuals to take over and continue selling until 4 pm, followed by a subsequent shift from 4 pm to 10 pm, and so forth until the next day. In contrast to their challenges, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has presented a comprehensive vision statement consisting of seventy points, which he has elaborated on extensively for the benefit of Ghanaians without encountering any obstacles.
Therefore, the question that Ghanaians should be posing is why John Mahama and the NDC are experiencing difficulties in articulating their 24-hour economy policy. In conclusion, I have closely monitored the discourse surrounding the proposed 24-hour economy since its inception, and I can confidently assert that, without a shadow of a doubt, the proposed policy by John Mahama and the NDC is nothing more than a deceptive ploy and a mere political slogan aimed at securing votes. Fortunately for our democracy, and unfortunately for the NDC and John Mahama, the electorate in 2024 differs significantly from that of 2008 and 2012. Today's voters are more discerning, technologically savvy, and capable of deciphering the underlying motives, thereby remaining impervious to such vacuous slogans.
Thank you
