The Ghana Journalists Association, together with its partners, has ended the media blackout on the Member of Parliament for the Yendi constituency Hon Farouk Aliu Mahama with immediate effect.
Addressing the press at the International Press Centre in Accra, the President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mr Albert Dumfour explained that Hon Farouk Aliu Mahama had demonstrated his sincere commitment to smoothing his relationship with the media and that the Ministry of Information had also intervened in the resolution process.
Mr Dumfour disclosed that the Management of Citi FM was satisfied with the resolution procedure as well as other partners of the GJA, and as a result, the media blackout was no longer in force.
The blackout was occasioned as a result of a misunderstanding between the Yendi legislator and a media representative from Citi FM during the recent Parliamentary primaries in the Yendi constituency.
The media blackout on Hon Hawa Koomson by the GJA was also lifted today.
It is expected that the relationship of Hon Farouk Aliu Mahama with the media will enjoy a new page for the good of freedom of the media and expression in Ghana.
The GJA used the opportunity to thank the media and its stakeholders for their cooperation during the blackout and assured them that the GJA will continue to promote press freedom in Ghana.
