A PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT MUST BE GUIDED AND NOT EASILY CARRIED AWAY BY DEEP-SEATED EMOTIONS

To lead a political Party as a Presidential candidate comes with a lot for anyone to present himself to champion such a worthy cause.

It entails a lot anchored on one's leadership acumen to attract much following or to be well accepted by the rank and file of the Party because of the relevant nature of such a sense position.

Leadership is not about the position or title but one's ability to act in a manner that brings inspiration or motivates others to emulate and translate such enviable skills to the benefit of all. Leadership is not for the timorous or those who are easily carried away by their emotions.

Let's take a trip back memory lane with the number of people who showed interest in the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) Presidential Primaries. The ten qualified people in the race were pruned down to five per the Party's rules and regulations governing the conduct of elections through the special electoral college elections.

This special electoral college election was organized on August 26 to prune the number down to five to pave the way for the November 4 final contest to decide who leads the Party into the 2024 general Elections.

Interestingly, after the mammoth contest, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu, Honourable Kennedy Agyapong, Hon. Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, Hon. Dr. Afriyie Akoto, and Hon. Addai Nimo were the five (5) shortlisted candidates to go into the November 4 Presidential Primaries.

Fast forward, the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia showcased his dominance with the number of votes garnered from the special/super delegates who took part in the contest across the country with 629 votes.

Notably, after the contest, Hon Alan Kyeremanten who was placed third resigned from the party and formed an independent movement citing certain allegations which many are not surprised because of his poor show at the end of the contest.

Surprisingly, Honourable Kennedy Agyaipong who was placed second also made some disparaging allegations against the leadership of the party and took them to the cleaners with all manner of unhealthy utterances against the President and the Vice President by calling them for a "showdown".

These "showdown" comments from him were the talk for his supporters to drum home and they later organized a walk dubbed "showdown walk" in Accra. Unfortunately, during the walk, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong used the opportunity to rain insults on the Party hierarchy with wild and unsubstantiated allegations.

Realistically, as someone in the race to lead the biggest Political Party, many thought he would carry himself very well with his campaign but he decided to go on an insulting spree with baseless accusations against his opponent and the Party leadership.

He continued his campaign when the second showdown walk was organized in Kumasi recently. He used the opportunity to tear the Party into pieces thinking that he was attacking the person of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He threatened and labeled all sorts of allegations against the Vice President and his team, the Party's leadership, and some notable members who are championing the candidature of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who is in the best position to lead the New Patriotic Party, NPP.

The bottom line is that is he fit to lead the Party he is accusing with all manner of unprintable words? Is he the right candidate for the Party with these deep-seated emotions? Does he have the capacity to protect the image of the Party?

I would vehemently state that he lacks the leadership qualities to unite and protect the image of the party. He is easily carried away by his emotions anytime he feels things aren't going his way. A Presidential candidate must have some enviable qualities that are built on humility, tolerance, competence, sacrifice, hard work, loyalty, good temperament, and a unifier.

In conclusion, I respectfully call on all delegates to massively vote for the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, he has demonstrated passion, flair, and tenacity to uphold the image of the party. He is an amazing emblem of a true leader with a tactical shrewdness to bring all on board. A unifying force going forward. He is number 2 on the ballot.
