ABDULAI ABDUL RAZAK QUIZZES HON. KENNEDY AGYAPONG.
Let's take a trip back on what transpired for the past months about the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) Presidential Primaries which initially ten(10) qualified people were in the contest to lead the Elephant fraternity come 2024 General Elections.
Indeed, as per rules governing the Party, the numbers were pruned down to five (5) through the special electoral college elections stipulated in the Party's Constitution governing the conduct of the whole process since the numbers were more than five (5).
Fast forward, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia garnered more votes than the rest of the Presidential aspirants in the race followed by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, Hon. Alan Kojo Kyeremanten, Hon. Osei Afriyie Akoto with Hon. Addai Nimo and Hon. Boakye Agyarko with the same votes at the end of the contest.
This tie between the two on who occupied the fifth position brought a different twist to the whole special electoral college Elections. However, the hierarchy of the party sat on the matter and came out with a communique for members to vote to break the tie to complete the entire process.
In addition, Hon. Boakye Agyarko wrote to the party to announce his decision to withdraw from the race, and automatically Hon. Addai Nimo placed the number five (5) position towards the November 4 Presidential Primaries. Unfortunately, Hon. Alan Kyeremanteng was number three (3) and also surprisingly withdrew from the race citing some issues raised in his press release to the media and the Party.
Notably, let me delve into the substance of the entire piece on *WHY IN THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE AGAIN IF NPP LOST THE 2024 GENERAL ELECTIONS IN 2022?* This is directed at a Presidential Candidate in the race who openly and publicly said the NPP Government lost the 2024 general Elections in 2022.
For clarity and avoidance of doubt, this statement was made by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong when he addressed a group of people in their "showdown walk" organized by his sympathizers. This statement caught the attention of the people with a plethora of questions on the minds of party faithful across the length and breadth of the country.
Respectfully, this statement from Hon. Kennedy Agyapong could be described as unguided, distasteful, and unwarranted which doesn't inure to the benefit of the party he wants to lead. Why such a statement at this crucial moment of the contest which is internal? Is it fair to run down the same party/Government you serve as board Chairman of Ghana Gas Company Limited?
Furthermore, it's quite dreadful looking at the stature of Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and his continued utterances which put the name of the party into the mud all the time in his desire to lead the New Patriotic Party, NPP. As it's said "One cannot sit on the same branch of a tree and cut it again" This should be a guiding precept for him to respectfully rethink some of his unhealthy utterances.
Truly, we all know that the Government is facing a lot of challenges despite the numerous work done so far all geared towards alleviating the sufferings of Ghanaians and party faithful. Surprisingly, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong himself before he joined the race acknowledged the challenges the Government faced due to the negative impact of Covid 19 and the Russia-Ukraine war debacles which took the whole world by storm.
Yes, we cannot continue to give our opponents a clear message or arsenals to use against us in the impending 2024 general Elections which tend to derail the fortunes of the party we all pledged to protect and work for. With all due respect, leadership is by example and Hon. Kennedy Agyapong should be measured in the way he goes about his campaign.
In a strict sense, one cannot put the name of the party he wants to lead in a bad light and expect others to join since such moves dent the image of the party. Respectfully, as a true patriot of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, I entreat Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and his team to focus on trumpeting what he has done and what he wants to do for the party faithful but not to go on that tangent to vilify and speak ill about the same Government he serves as Board Chairman of State Institution.
Finally, I know some sympathizers of the aspiring Presidential candidate may not side with some of the valid points raised above, but the truth is like a bitter pill to swallow. One cannot destroy something he values through his actions. We all believe in the Red, White, and Blue colors of the elephant fraternity and it's incumbent on us to check our utterances in public.
Shalom!
