A former NDC parliamentary hopeful and lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte, has cautioned the opposition party to focus on winning the 2024 elections at the polling stations instead of its incessant campaign against Jean Mensa and her deputies.
Dr. Kpessa Whyte, in a Facebook post, has emphasized that the notion that elections are won in the EC’s strong room is a fallacy and that the party should not focus on the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and her Deputies but on where elections are held, polling stations.
“I wish to use the opportunity to address an issue that ought to be given attention if our fight to win is to succeed. It is an issue I want to bring to the attention of the new officers, especially Dr. Edward Omani Boamah, my classmate and friend for several years in his role as the Director of Elections for our party. I opt to address this publicly because many have deluded themselves on account of the subject matter in a manner that is not helpful for our party” he stated.
He continued; “Indeed, if our party, the NDC is truly desirous to win 2024, it would make sense for party officials and members to eliminate the delusion that elections are won from the EC strong room, and that we lost 2020 from the EC strongroom. Elections are won and lost at the polling stations” he stressed.
He wondered how “a party that has admitted that it was unable to collate its 2020 results, claim it lost from the strongroom? Which result did the party give to its agents in the strongroom? Why hasn't the party put out its results if indeed there was one? What is there to gain from deluding ourselves into another defeat? God forbids! Let's own up to our collective mistakes and errors and stop the blame game, there is nothing to gain from self-delusion”
He said that the party and its leadership must be truthful to themselves if they are serious about winning the 2024 elections and stop blaming innocent people for their woes.
The lecturer at the University of Ghana was one of the agents the NDC selected to the EC’s strong room to collate the 2020 elections which the NDC’s candidate, John Dramani Mahama, lost to President Akufo-Addo for the second time.
