BETTING AND OUR RELIGIOUS FAITH

Abraham Mensah Acquah writes:
I do not understand why some Ghanaians are kicking against the betting tax designed to discourage betting.
Ghana's population is predominantly Christians and Muslims, whose religious teachings prohibit betting and any form of gambling.
*Are we worshipping God?*
Proverbs 13:11 - Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.
1 Timothy 6:10 - For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
The Bible approves of at least three ways to obtain goods or money. (1) Working to earn money,(2) obtaining goods through exchange or barter,(3) and receiving lifetime gifts or inheritance at death are all expressly acceptable ways to increase your wealth or possessions.
Societal ills such as gambling addictions, excessive debt, and neglected families are prime examples of the effects of gambling and should be considered immoral.
Betting is not for the unemployed because those employed in good organizations do also bet.
We must protect God's purpose for creating us and preserve the moral fiber of Ghanaian society.
May God's name be praised
