I just watched a video of Hajia Samata Gifty Bukari, the Consul General of Ghana in Lagos and a former Northern Regional 1st Vice Chairperson of the Party proposing/advocating that, the Party should allow first-time NPP MPs to go unopposed. I respect her opinion but l humbly disagree with her.

She failed to put out cogent reasons for such an UNDEMOCRATIC rendition. It is extremely dangerous for "leading" members of our GREAT PARTY to be making such comments. It does only undermine our democratic credentials; it cannot also be accurate to suggest that, a competitive and democratic process to re-elect our MPs for the 2024 general elections is a terrible idea.

This kind of thinking is unstrategic and backward. All MP hopefuls and current MPs who aim to return to Parliament must demonstrate their suitability and acceptability to the local constituency electoral colleges. Competition excites and energizes the base of the Party. It prepares the potential PCs for the bigger hurdle and mobilizes the grassroots around the Party.

Any proposal seeking to put aside this proven and age-long process of choosing our PCs must be treated with the contempt it deserves. We are a democratic Party. Our values are rooted in the democratic credentials we are identified globally with. Let's not trample upon our values.

Let's allow the local people to choose their PCs. Even DMB who has demonstrated without doubt that he is one of Ghana's GREATEST assets is being contested. I think people must pause a little and reflect carefully and stop propounding this obnoxious idea of no contest in certain constituencies.
