Various groups are mounting more pressure on the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Tamale North constituency in the 2012 elections, Hon. Akilu Sayibu, to stage a come back in 2020.

In a statement issued to the press in Tamale and signed by Baba Kanvili and Simak Shiraz SK, the group said that Hon. Akilu Sayibu was able to prosecute a credible and exciting campaign in the 2012 elections. This resulted in the NPP, for the first time since 1992, winning at eight (8) polling stations in the constituency and lost maginally at some of the Polling stations with am impressive score.

The group is of the view that Hon. Akilu Sayibu already knows the constituency very well in terms of its people and problems and has gained substantial exposure and experience over the years and his candidature will make things simple for the NPP in the Tamale North Constituency should he offer to contest again.

The group added that Hon. Akilu Sayibu is a consumate and prolific writer and communicator who can articulate his policies, and that of the NPP, competently in the constituency.

The group has therefore, called on the constituency Executives and Council of Elders of the party in the constituency to appeal to Hon. Akilu Sayibu to stage a come back to brighten the state of the party in the constituency.

In another development, some members of the opposition parties in the Tamale North constituency have pledged to vote for Hon. Akilu Sayibu and the NPP in election 2020 should the NPP present him as its candidate saying that he did a lot for Tamale North when he was a candidate; notably the regravelling of the SSNIT Fuo road and donation of used clothings, benches, acquiring scholarships for some medical students among other financial supports to the people including job oppotunities. The Mitsubishi pick up vehicle of Hon. Akilu Sayibu was like ‘Metro Mass bus’ in Tamale serving all who needed it.

It is left to be seen whether Hon. Akilu Sayibu will heed to these latest calls on him to contest the Tamale North seat in the wake of these calls from party faithful of the NPP.
